Kepler Track は一周60キロあるNZで最も有名な登山道のひとつなのだけれど、野生のキウイバードも住んでいるらしい。 何せ50年間絶滅したと信じられてきた“タカへ”という鳥が見つかったくらいだから、前人未到の原生林が山の奥深くに沢山残っているわけで。 そんな少しばかり神がかったような森におふざけをするのはちょっとばかり気が引けたけれどもーむしろ他の登山客に目撃されたらものすごく恥ずかしいー夜行性のキウイバードに似たフルーツを早朝の光の中に召喚してみた。 NZで売っているキウイフルーツは形が幾分楕円型だったり歪んでたりする(良い形のやつは全部日本に輸出されてしまうのだ)し、4個入りのパックに綺麗に包装されて、ではなくて、キロあたりいくらで山積みになって売られている。 特にゴールデンやレッドが出てきてからはこのグリーンキウイの地位は年々下がっているような気がしてスーパーで見かけると、どことなく憂鬱そうに見えてしまうのである。そんな彼らに少しでも脚光を浴びせようと思ったのが今回の試みだ。 キウイバードにとっては名誉毀損と思われるかもしれないし、キウイフルーツにとっては誠にありがた迷惑な話かもしれないけれど、兎に角、早朝の原生林で鳥の囀りや湖のさざなみの音をBGMにシャッターを切るのは誠に気持ちのいい経験でありました。 December 2021. Kiwifruit sold in NZ are somewhat oval or distorted in shape (all the good ones are exported to Japan), and are sold not in neatly wrapped packs of four, but in piles at a price per kilo. The status of the green kiwi seems to be declining year by year, especially after the introduction of the golden and red kiwis, and when I see them in the supermarket, they look depressing. This is my attempt to bring them into the limelight. It may seem like a libel to the kiwibirds and a real inconvenience to the kiwifruit, but at any rate, it was a pleasant experience to click the shutter in the primeval forest in the early morning with the birds singing and the sound of the lake rippling in the background.
