Kinomoto, Nagahama City, Shiga Prefecture. Tomita Shuzo(冨田酒造), the brewery behind Shichihonyari(七本鎗), has been brewing sake for nearly 500 years in this northern Lake Biwa region, surrounded by rich nature and deep-rooted history. We want more people to feel the sake-brewing culture we’ve carried on for generations—and to connect with the land that has nurtured it. That’s why Tomita Shuzo(冨田酒造) is participating in a project that uses NFTs to offer sake brewery experiences in a new and engaging form, linking local culture to the future. We want to share the stories behind our sake—and the unique experience of visiting the brewery itself—through modern technology. Our goal is to spark interest in our region, encourage cultural exchange, and help bring renewed energy to rural communities, both culturally and economically. This isn’t just about going digital. By using NFTs as a bridge between tradition and innovation, we hope each cup of sake offers a connection to the land, its people, and their stories.

Tomita Shuzo(冨田酒造) - Brewers of “Shichihonyari(七本鎗)”

About Shichihonyari(七本鎗)

Our sake brewery is located in Kinomoto, Nagahama City, in northern Shiga Prefecture, near the shores of Lake Biwa.

Since our founding, we have continued brewing sake in this area for approximately 500 years.

Shichihonyari(七本鎗) is a sake cherished by those who love food and drink.

It is known for bringing out the natural umami of rice and pairing harmoniously with meals.

The strong, brave-sounding name “Shichihonyari(七本鎗)” comes from seven warriors who became famous in the “Battle of Shizugatake,” a decisive conflict fought in this region during Japan’s Sengoku (Warring States) period.

This area is blessed with beautiful water, fertile soil, and large temperature differences caused by cold winds blowing down from the Hokuriku region.

Thanks to this rich natural environment, it has long prospered as a land of agriculture.

Warlords such as Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Ishida Mitsunari also chose this region as a strategic base.

Because of this, a fine culinary culture developed here—especially one focused on fermented foods served at the tables of Japan’s most powerful leaders.

In this place with deep historical and culinary traditions, Tomita Shuzo(冨田酒造) has continued to brew sake in the old ways, without being influenced by passing trends.

We focus on bringing out the flavor of locally grown rice and making sake that complements Japanese cuisine.

It is also one of our greatest sources of pride that the famous gourmet, Rosanjin Kitaoji, once stayed at our brewery and personally brushed the calligraphy for the Shichihonyari(七本鎗) name plaque.

For us, as a sake brewery that supports the traditional food culture of this region, this remains a deeply meaningful honor.

Brewing the Spirit of the Land, Passing It to the Future

Brewing the Spirit of the Land, Passing It to the Future

We are currently working together with local farmers to brew sake using pesticide-free, naturally grown rice. This is not just about making sake—it's a challenge to live alongside the region, its culture, and its traditions, and to pass them on with care into the future. Each cup of Shichihonyari contains the water, wind, and soil of this land, as well as the daily lives and spirit of the people who live here. Its flavor is powerful—almost “rugged”—yet refined and delicate, making it a perfect companion for seasonal dishes throughout the year.

NFTs as a New Way to Connect

Our NFT project is not just about digital items.

We see NFTs as a tool that bridges the long-standing traditions and history of our region with the modern world.

At the same time, we believe they are a new form of expression—one that carries people’s connections and messages of support into the future.

Through this project, we hope people will rediscover the beauty of our region and the depth of Japanese sake culture.

There is nothing more rewarding for us than that.

We sincerely hope that each cup of sake, along with the stories of its origin, can offer a small light of hope for the future.
